behind the muses

The stories behind the muses

We often share stories of artists in relation to what inspires them. When that inspiration comes from individuals, those individuals' stories deserve to be told as well.

From women painting women to neglected Black sitters and from revisiting the bohemian muse to the Tahitian woman behind Paul Gauguin's paintings, these stories help us to reconsider the trope of the muse.
